Subjects & Pathways
Subject Input - ensuring students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
The Pathway to Employment study programme is designed with a holistic approach, encompassing four main subjects:
- Employment
- Core Subjects (English & Maths)
- Tutorials
- Enrichment
Notably, a significant portion of the week is dedicated to the study of employment, recognised as the curriculum driver crucial for achieving positive student outcomes in the world of work.
In addition to these core subjects, Digital Literacy is integrated into both the Employment and Tutorial study programmes. Within the Tutorial study programme, Digital Literacy takes a focused approach on imparting essential knowledge and skills on how to keep safe in the digital landscape. This inclusion ensures that students not only acquire the necessary expertise related to employment but also develop a keen understanding of online safety practices, empowering them to navigate the digital world responsibly. By doing so, we aim to equip our students with a well-rounded skill set that aligns with the demands of the contemporary workforce while prioritising their digital well-being.
Pathway Routes - delivery of Core Subjects and ensuring all students access learning in a way that supports them.
All students that access the Pathway to Employment have been identified as having the aspiration and future ability to gain and sustain employment. This is irrespective of their level of learning.
To cater to students with differing learning abilities and styles, we offer two routes to enable access to core learning (maths & English).
Enterprise Route (RARPA – Non-Qualification)
Many of our students have encountered barriers to learning through their educational life as subjects have been delivered discreetly and in a more traditional classroom-based style. Just because a student struggles to access learning in this way does not mean they are incapable of learning or that they are not able to gain employment. They just need to access learning differently.
On our enterprise route, all core learning (maths & English) is delivered through enterprise projects. Students will establish and run projects which will involve the initial application for funding through business planning, project set up, exploring routes to market, marketing, profit and loss, reinvestment etc.
All of these activities will provide the students with the opportunity to develop essential core subject knowledge and skills without the need for discreet lessons.
Modular Route (Qualifications)
The modular route takes a more traditional approach to core subject learning.
Students will access discreet English & maths lessons to develop knowledge and skills to an accredited outcome.
Students will then be given the opportunity to apply their knowledge through the provision of practical experience provided by our Employability ‘Experience of the world of Work’ framework.
