Supported Internships

The college offers a one-year supported internship programme for learners that have demonstrated the knowledge, skill and character to progress into paid employment within twelve months.

The Creating Tomorrow College supported internship model is offered as a 5 day a week programme delivered solely in the workplace.

The model for delivery involves a nominated workplace mentor supporting the intern for the course of the programme. The intern and the mentor are supported by a dedicated Level 4 Job Coach who is trained in the use of systematic instruction and job carving.

The Job Coach delivers the employment curriculum along with maths and English (if appropriate) in the workplace. Therefore, the intern does not return to the college campus on this programme.

Leaders keep the delivery model adaptable. The college adopts a strategy of seeking out employers to support the programme based on intern-identified aspirations rather than attempting to place interns in work environments as a result of existing relationships.

Interns will benefit from a carousel approach, where they may experience multiple roles within an organisation, or a linear approach which provides an elongated time for skill development and role understanding.
