A Practical Route Into Work

The Pathway to Employment programme is designed for learners who want to move into paid employment after college but need time, experience and support to understand what work is right for them.

We believe that young people with SEND can gain and sustain meaningful employment when they are given the opportunity to explore different roles, build confidence and develop real workplace skills.

Our Model

Pathway to Employment is a five-day-a-week programme, reflecting the reality of the world of work.

Learners develop the knowledge, skills and character needed for employment through a balance of:

• Classroom-based learning
• Extensive and hands-on work experience
• Personalised support from specialist Job Coaches

This structure builds independence, routine and readiness for adult life.

Experience the World of Work

A core part of the Pathway to Employment is hands-on experience across a wide range of industries and job roles. Learners are supported to:

• Try different types of work
• Discover what they enjoy and what they don't
• Understand their strengths and preferences
• Explore job roles they may not have considered before

This variety ensures learners make informed choices about their future, rather than being placed into work that isn't right for them.

Subjects

Learning time is weighted to prioritise employability, alongside:

• Functional English, Maths and IT
• Personal, social, economic and health education
• Enrichment activities that support wellbeing and work-life balance

Progression

The Pathway to Employment prepares learners for a Supported Internship where they specialise in a chosen sector or direct progression into employment, where appropriate.
